What a weekend.
Brawl on the Bay is in the books, and the C4 Fight Team went 5–2. Every fighter represented the team well, and the entire coaching staff is proud of the way everyone prepared, competed, and carried themselves.
For a first team experience at an event like this, we could not have asked for much more.
A huge thank-you to Ko-Kwel Casino Resort, ExciteFight, Rick Little, and Eddie Grant for giving our team the opportunity and for being such gracious hosts.
And of course, thank you to everyone who came out, bought tickets, supported the fighters, helped behind the scenes, and made noise for the team.
Competition Is Part of What We Do — Not All We Do
With all the attention on Brawl on the Bay and SUBLEAGUE coming up next month, this is a good time to remind everyone that Gracie Coos County is not a competition-only school.
Competition is there for the people who want it, but it is only one path.
We are open to everyone. Different ages, different fitness levels, different experience levels, and different goals all have a place here. You do not need to compete, or become an athlete to benefit from training.
Some people come for fitness or self-defense. Others are looking to build confidence, relieve stress, move better, be part of a community, or simply find something challenging and fun to do.
The best way to figure out where you fit is simple:
Give everything a try and see where you land.
Jiu Jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, MMA —try the things that interest you and find your part of the academy that keeps you wanting to come back.
You may be surprised by what you end up enjoying most.
New Location Update
With fight week behind us, our attention now turns toward the move.
We are still pushing toward transitioning into the new location during the first part of September, but we are waiting on inspections before we can lock in the exact date.
The delay is on me. I submitted some of the paperwork later than I should have, so we are working through that process now.
The good news is that the mats, flooring, wall pads and cage have all been delivered so we can move quickly.
September is still the move. Be ready.
As soon as inspections are complete and we have a firm transition date, everyone will know.
This Week’s Intro — Kickboxing with Coach Justin
Our rotating Intro class this week is Intro to Kickboxing with Coach Justin.
This is a fundamentals-focused class covering the basics of stance, movement, striking, defense, and the building blocks of kickboxing.
Whether striking is completely new to you or you just want to tighten up your fundamentals, jump in and give it a try.
Next week: Intro MMA with Coach TJ.
Fall Schedule Coming Next Week
Our Fall Schedule will be released next week.
We build the schedule around actual attendance, student needs, and the feedback we receive from the people training here.
If there is a class time you would like to see changed, something you want added, or a part of the schedule that has not been working well for you, please let us know.
We cannot promise every request will fit, but your feedback absolutely matters when we decide where classes belong on the schedule.
Next Up — SUBLEAGUE Oregon Open
The MMA team gets a little time to enjoy this weekend’s results, but our next competition is already on the horizon.
The SUBLEAGUE Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu competition is coming up next month, and we will begin putting more focus on preparing our Jiu Jitsu competitors as we head into September.
If you plan on competing, let the coaches know and start getting those consistent rounds in now.
And if competing is not your thing, nothing changes—come train, learn, get better, and enjoy being on the mats.
Looking Ahead
August has been a busy month.
We hosted seminars, launched the C4 Fight Team into its first major local event, came home from Brawl on the Bay with a 5–2 record, continued building out the new academy, and started preparing for the next competition.
Now we turn the page toward September.
New location. New fall schedule. SUBLEAGUE. And plenty more ahead.
Have a great week, everyone.
See y’all on the mats!
